Dan Solberg and Gina GrafosScenesJoin us for Scenes, the season opening show at Low Road Gallery. Featured will be new videos and photography from St. Louis-based artists Dan Solberg and Gina Grafos. This exhibition is a collection of recent works that take the concept of the landscape in two different directions that yet retain complimentary aesthetics. The works by Dan Solberg depict scenes of cinematic realism. The images capture dramatic natural and artificial light through the literal frames of suburban facades. The ambiguity of the authenticity of suburbia is juxtaposed with optical illusion, casting doubt about the genuineness of the photographic processes behind them. Motivated by Semiotics, Grafos' photographs and modified objects reveal the symbols and signs found in the contemporary landscape. Whether found object or documentation, the reorientation of these symbols questions the veracity of such placement and the spectator's set of codes attached.
